The extensive teaching activities of Immanuel Kant (1724 - 1804) from 1755 to 1796 resulted in a copious listener transcripts. The value of these texts for knowledge and understanding of Kant's philosophy was long disputed. Today, the general opinion is that the lectures complement the printed work in important points and illustrate Kant's wide-ranging literary horizon. The original strategy, released in 1896, was to publish a section IV (Vorlesungen) in the Kant Edition of the Königlich Preußische Akademie. This intention was abandoned during the inflation in the early 1920s. In the second half of the 1950s, the Berlin Akademie revived the original strategy: in 1961 a first volume was published. In 1963 the Göttinger Akademie resumed realisation and supervision of the project: from 1966 to 1983 G. Lehmann edited and submitted volume 24 (Logik), 27 (Moralphilosophie), 28 (Metaphysik und Religionsphilosophie) and 29 (Kleinere Vorlesungen und Ergänzungen) - partly in three partial volumes. Unfortunately a considerable part of the volumes known before the 2nd World War manuscripts have been lost; some of them are now available again, others will hopefully come along. After the death of G. Lehmann in 1987, R. Brandt resumed the editing of the missing volumes 25 (Anthropologie) and 26 (Physische Geographie). Since January 2001 the Kant Edition is supervised by the BBAW. A concept for synchronous electronic and print publication is beeing developed with the publisher de Gruyter. eng
